Welcome to Rompiendo Barreras

Rompiendo Barreras began in 2008, born from a vision planted decades earlier in the heart of a young girl growing up in Peru. That girl was me—Gladys.

My father, Max, a man of deep compassion and unwavering service, dedicated his life to uplifting others. He founded a school for blind individuals, offering dignity and opportunity where there had once been none. His example wasn’t just inspiring—it became the foundation of everything I believed in.

But it wasn’t only my father who shaped this path. My mother, Doña, was also influential. Her quiet strength, generosity, and constant example of helping others—instilled in me a deep desire to serve. She had a gift for seeing potential in people and never hesitated to lend a hand. It was actually she who came up with the name Rompiendo Barreras—Breaking Barriers. She understood the heart of this mission before it even had a structure, and she gave it the name that perfectly captured its spirit.

From a young age, I felt a strong pull toward helping others. I became a teacher and spent many meaningful years working with children. Eventually, I found my calling in teaching Spanish, a role that brought me deep joy as I watched students gain confidence and connect with a new language and culture.

In 2008, I officially founded this organization as a way to carry forward my parents’ legacy. Rompiendo Barreras was born out of their example—of compassion, courage, and quiet revolution. Of removing obstacles and opening doors for others.

But life had its own timing. Raising six wonderful children became my first mission, and though the dream of the NGO never left my heart, it took a quieter place for a while.

Now, with my children grown, I’ve been able to return to that dream with full commitment and a renewed sense of purpose. Rompiendo Barreras is more than an organization—it’s a lifelong calling. Through education, language, and outreach, we strive to uplift and empower, just as my parents once did.
